Claristar® Mannoproteins Administratively Approved for Use in Wine by TTB

Gusmer Enterprises and OenoBrands are excited to announce that the TTB has issued an administrative approval for the use of Claristar® Mannoproteins in wine. This approval now allows Claristar to be used for the purpose of stabilizing wine from the precipitation of potassium bitartrate crystals without submitting approval requests to the TTB. The approval comes after a preliminary GRAS ruling by the FDA and nearly two years of trials by wineries in North America validating the effectiveness of Claristar as a tartrate inhibitor.

In addition to being a quicker, natural alternative to traditional tartrate stability techniques, Claristar also significantly improves a winery’s environmental efficiency. As a green alternative it reduces waste, water and energy consumption in the winery. The liquid formulation facilitates the instant stabilizing effect of Claristar, allowing for immediate final filtration. Most importantly, Claristar has no impact on a wine’s color, aroma or flavor ensuring that the wine you worked to make perfect, stays that way.

Claristar has been approved in Europe by the OIV and allowed for commercial use since 2008.
